🎁 Holiday Hot Takes

Thanks to the girlies who showed up and swapped books at The Bohemian this week 📚. Our final live show of the year was a true holiday hang, covering everything from work party dress code dilemmas to secret marriages. Girlies brought the magic with their hot takes, brutal honesty, and Hinge updates(…did GCG help manifest a boyfriend? Keep reading!)

All year long, we’ve spilled the tea, shared advice, and felt incredibly lucky to be building this girl(ie)hood community with you. As we start to plan for next year (ok, ok, ok, talk about planning next year), we wanted to hear from you. At the live show last week we had a feedback survey, but we want to make sure every girlie who’s attended a live show has a chance to weigh in. And if you haven’t been to a live show yet? We still want to know how you’d like to see GCG grow in the new year.

Your thoughts mean everything to us. Unless we don’t agree, in which case, we will be bringing it up in therapy. But that’s good for us, you know?

💬 What We Chatted About

👢 Sock boots and Side Parts.

Millennials ever ready to report for duty. Side parts? Keep the comb at the ready but don’t start using yet. The Army Green jackets from 2016 can be removed from Goodwill pile, ponchos have potential, but the girlies said hard pass on a Sperrys comeback. Sorry to boat shoes, you bring back too many memories. Sock boots however? The jury is out.

A girlie asked what to wear to her hubby’s holiday work party (1st year on the job at a brewery). Skirt & chunky sweater won the votes.

💄 3D Beauty:

The girlies said YES to brown and burgundy mascara, and absolutely NOT to the Rhode Peptide Lip Liner. YouTube influencers may be convinced it’s god’s gift, but girlies in the crowd were not fans. A girlie recommended Wonderskin as a favorite lip product. The room was mixed about The Morning Shed and to the potential K Beauty trend of 3D face wash and masks.

tha…tha…tha…THA GRINCH

🧪 Women in STEM.

One girlie admitted to googling “Does air have pH?” (it does not) and another wondered if iMessages show as text messages on phone usage records? (They do not, it’s technically data consumption).

side note: we found out the pH girlie is a baddie scientist who was just a little sleep deprived at the time of the google.

🔪Age is still a weapon. We learned what “Club Penguin” is… and in doing so, confirmed that we are old…er.

and IYKYK…. Don’t get too upset at that pressure cooker and be wary of spotify playlist titles.

Plus, we got some very juicy Tiny Tea and secrets for future newsletters — but we especially want to shout out the girlie who shared A Secret She Hasn’t Told Anyone: she’s secretly married! We are so thrilled you gave us the whole story and congrats from the girlies!

One post show recommendation a girlie swears by for cramps?

Reco time.

📺 Binge or Pass:

🍿 Binge: Heated Rivalry (HBO), The Beast in Me (Netflix), All Her Fault (Peacock), Palm Royale (Apple)

True Crime girlies had already binged Sean Combs the Reckoning, and we’re very curious to see the documentary Predators (Paramount) which premiered at Sundance earlier this year and takes a controversial look at the TV show How to Catch a Predator.

🫢 Skip (or silently ignore):
Matt Rife’s new special (some boos from the girlies at this one), The Abandons, My Secret Santa (Netflix)

🎲 Jury is out:
Love & Death (Elizabeth Olsen’s new HBO show), The Great Christmas Light Fight (a reality tv show on Hulu), Jay Kelly (Netflix), Jingle Bell Heist (Netflix)

The room was also hotly divided on the Jonas Brothers Christmas movie.

📚 Excited for the Adaptation

While we brought books to swap this show, no one had a chance to read national December book clubs picks, but some did inspire some convo.

The December pick for Today Show/ Read with Jenna is the Jane Austen classic, Pride & Prejudice. We asked the girlies if they were Jane Austen or Brontë girlies, and the one thing the room was very seated for? What’s sure to be a steamy adaptation of Wuthering Heights from Emerald Fennell starring Jacob Elordi and Margot Robbie.

🍴 Holiday Pop Ups

Is there anything more for the girlies than a holiday pop up bar? We asked the girlies what places in CLT are worth a trip to get your tinsel fix.

📍 Stop by for a drink at
Backstage Lounge (girlie sourced tip, go on Sunday to avoid crowds), Bah Humbug at Humbug, McHales House of Christmas, Santa’s Favorite Watering Hole at Vinyl.

well done, McHales.

Save your gas
Sip & Santa at The Royal Tot, Winter at Queen’s Castle at Aura Rooftop, Nautie Northpole at Waterman’s Rooftop, Sugar Plum Social at Optimist Hall at Billy Sundays

Buddy’s ($175) Cocktail Workshop at Supperland is sold out, so if any girlies go, report back.

📝 OG Girlies takes and takeaways

Carol: I had a question I was fully planning to ask the girlies at the live show… and then I forgot. So I’m asking here: to my remote workers and coffee shop laptop warriors, how are you getting anything done without two screens and a mouse?

This week Skylar and I met for GCG 2026 planning. First, we had matching Caesar salad wraps, shared truffle fries, and yapped a lot. Then we got to work. We got out our laptops… and I quietly got out my mouse, mouse dongle attachment, and mouse pad, and …and Skylar… did not. She said nothing to me at the time, but afterward texted me this:

so you can know how productive they are, Jared?!

Ok, so she did notice. Here’s my question for the girlies: how are you getting anything done with a trackpad and one screen?

I was full-time, in-office (YES, even when you b!tches were making sourdough at home during COVID, I was IN OFFICE) for 14 years. I have recently made the large, terrifying, and exciting transition to full-time creative (millennials have cracked), so I’m now joining you people for the coffee shop lifestyle and I simply need answers.

HOW are y’all doing real work on these Barbie computers??? Have none of you ever worked in an office before? Have you never harnessed the raw, uncut power of two widescreen monitors and a wireless mouse and keyboard?

Have I previously judged people with insane coffee shop work setups? Yes! But this was before I knew the pain. Now, I get it. My body is an OSHA violation. I am hunched. I am folded. I’m getting that horrific curve in my neck that makes me look like a gamer. It’s not sustainable!

Before I received this text of judgment, I was very close to buying one of these laptop sleeves that turns into a stand (Woman founded! Cute!) because their marketing is RIGHT we DO LOOK LIKE LITTLE HUNCHED SHRIMP and I need a sleek solution! But will I be judged?!

So tell me, girlies. Were you trained by the CIA in torture tactics? Is there something I don’t know? Have you simply never experienced the other side? Please, please tell me your secrets.

absolutely not 3 boxes of Costco sized Ferrero Rocher holding up my computer as I type this.

Skylar: Reality Discourse. I’m a few weeks late to the game, but I finally caught up on season 3 of Secret Lives of Mormon Wives and once again I’m reminded that reality TV is basically an incubator for very real (yes, pun intended) conversations about bigger social and political themes.

I was talking to a girlie at The Holiday Hang about a book I read this year, Girl on Girl: How Pop Culture Turned a Generation of Women Against Themselves, and one of my favorite things is using every new reality TV drop as an excuse to examine how society is currently framing dating, relationships, femininity, ambition, and identity.

All that to say: this season of SLOMW fascinates me because so much of the drama feels created not by their friendships or personal lives, but their personal ambition, perceived value, and how each woman is using the show to her advantage.

And at our live show, some of the loudest reactions came after reading the hot take, “Do Kyle and Amanda actually like each other? (Summer House)” and during the discussion around Alix Earle’s breakup. No matter your reality lane, one thing is clear: reality reigns.

Here are my hodgepodge of reality nuggets this week I found interesting.

Khloe K’s comment on his viral Instagram post prompted this California teacher to shoot his shot and the internet is loving it.

After 33 months in a federal prison, Jen Shah was released this week.

Kylie and Timothee’s matching orange was giving Britney and Justin’s denim duo.

Some SLOMW’s spin offs are in the works.

🎄 Holly & Jolly for Hinge
